Did Paul really say, “To be absent from the body IS to be present with the Lord”? I would venture to say that one of the most commonly misquoted verses in the Bible is 2 Corinthians 5:8. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people say, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” That’s not what Paul wrote, but it’s what many people say to defend their belief that we go immediately to heaven when we die.
